Sara-mae works with numerous families throughout their journey of adoption. Sara-mae offers a compassionate, empathetic and safe space for both parents and children to explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions through yoga therapy techniques.

Through specialised understanding and individual approaches, the sessions offer adoptive parents ways to build relationships with their children, increasing attachment, trust and security, within a calm and creative space.

The sessions are delivered with trauma in mind and seek to support the young person into a re-connection to their physical and emotional balance, to restore health and well being for trauma related conditions, autism, learning disabilities, etc...

Yoga Therapy sessions can help children from complex and traumatic backgrounds to increase concentration and attention skills, improve family and social relationships and increase a child’s confidence.

Sara-mae is also certified in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and incorporates a DDP informed perspective to sessions. DDP is an approach that can be effective for families to work towards understanding attachment theory, developmental trauma, the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and caregiving, intersubjectivity theory and child development.

Troubled children may have had many changes in the people who look after them and find it hard to trust adults. They may believe that parents aren’t safe and can’t always be turned to for comfort and help. They may develop insecure attachments and try to stop their new parents from becoming emotionally close to them.

For many children it is the first step towards finding ways of dealing with their feelings of loss, frustration and emotional trauma so that they can start to learn to trust, love and lead happier lives.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” “Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we're all in this together.”

FAMILY Yoga Therapy with Sara-mae

The yoga therapy sessions that I offer are hugely based upon a 'person centred' approach and come from a place of understanding that parents have indeed been on their own journey towards adoption.

Life throws many obstacles at us all and during my life have experienced a number too. Since Yoga found me, I have found the way to overcome many of those obstacles and I believe that through my own life experiences and journey through yoga, I can help offer this very special understanding and support throughout a yoga therapy session.

My work incorporates basic counselling skills with specialist yoga therapy techniques of movement (based upon yogic postures), focus upon specific pranayama practices (breath work) and so much more. You are sure to acquire effective life skills from each and every session.

My sessions seek to tackle the present moment concern, at the same time as working deeply upon the underlying concern.

The aim of Yoga Therapy is to promote good health for the person as a whole, the emphasis of this work may be towards the body, the mind, the emotions or a combination of all of these.

I work with the family over a series of sessions, some with children and some with parent only, depending on the needs of each family.
